Oster Deep Fryer - with a possible minor problem - Updated

I got this fryer about a month and a half ago due to I was tired of frying fish in a pot on the stove top, making a mess and getting burned. But when I went to find reviews to help me decide what one was best, there was slim pickings. Nothing out there was real helpful in telling me how well one preformed but plenty on right out of the box and set up. Well like I said its been 6 weeks and I have not thought to take this one back to the store at all yet. I love the basket has a groove to fit into and and then the handle goes down putting the basket into the hot oil. Lift the handle back up and up comes the basket. I just hold it there for a minute to let the oil drain off then dump my food onto a napkin and done. No splatters and hardly any grease on the napkin. Better than any fryer I have used in the past. The heater coil comes out for easy cleaning or changing of oil and the cook unit is set up like a crock pot so you can remove the oil pan for easy cleaning as well. Already I love this unit. No more mess or splatter. So far I would say it is worth the money. Check back and I will post an update on longevity of the unit working.

Can be bought in your local stores.

Update: 7/3/2012 Here is some pics of me using my deep fryer making last nights dinner of fried chicken strips. Yes I m a messy cook but cleans up real easy. The batter is what you see dripped down the side of the machine. I use this machine a lot. I never drip on the front control panel just the side of the machine. As you can see below pic that when you lower the basket you lower the handle down the front part of the machine too.

Update: 7/26/2012 - A problem has arose with this deep fryer. The front half circle control panel with the attached heating element, is meant to pull straight up and be removed so you can take out the square metal pan for changing the oil when needed. Well it worked the first time, but now the second cleaning comes along and that part will not slide out. It is like it is frozen or not removable but it is. I think it is a manufactures defect. I am taking it back to the store and getting a new one. If the new one does the same thing I will change my review of it. This is why I really like giving ample time for these kind of products. Like 3 to 6 months. But not going to make any of you wait that long for the new one's update. I will be swapping it in the next day or two. I am sorry viewers that I rushed this one.

New Fryer: 8/1/2012 - OK. Today I took the messed up machine back where I bought it and they just gave me my money back so that way the new machine would still fall under the store's 90 day return to store return policy. Yes I also did get a one year replacement plan same as the other one because you never know. That only cost me $3.00. Sorry it took me a little bit to return the other machine, I was not feeling well for a few days. I do have the new one here at home so give me at least a month or two to use this one and I will let you know how it is doing. Oh I asked the lady in returns how many have been returned that she knew of and she said none that she knew but of course she is not the only one in that dept. Does give me hope that it may have been just a manufacturer defect in just that unit. I really do hope that is all because I love the size of this fryer and how well it did operate up until that happened and it did work even though that part froze up on it or got stuck. I plugged it in and turned it on just to see.

8/15/2014 - UPDATE since 8/1/2012 - OMG. I had an update on here but see that it is not posted any longer. I do not know what happened or when it happened, but I am redoing it now. I just wanted to say that I am still using this Oster Deep Fryer and it is working just fine. We do not use it as often because we have cut back on fried foods but here it is over 2 years old and still working. So the first unit had to of had a manufacturer flaw. In general this is an excellent unit to own.
