I am now reviewing one of the products that I received from my Influenster VoxBox that I reviewed earlier on October 19, 2012. I have used this product quite a few times now, so I feel that I know it well enough to give my honest thoughts about it.
It is the NYC Individual Eyes Custom Compact with 4 shades that work well together for a smoky eye effect. It has all you need to complete this look including the primer and illuminator. The colors are in shades from white to almost black and are very vibrant. There was just a little sprinkle of fall out (eye shadow dust) that fell below my eyes as I applied the shadows but not to bad. The shadow has more of a creamy powder feel and not that chalky effect some have. I like that they go on smooth and look smooth. There is also a tad of shimmer built into the colors making them look classy not cheap. The name of the colors are not listed anywhere on the package but there is a plastic tray type cover over the colors listing where the color goes on the eyelid. There is also easy to follow instructions on the back attached label on how to use the product and where to put what color shade to get that nice smoky eye look. The illuminator can be added to the darker colors to give them a different effect and look when applied but there are not clear directions on how to do that. The primer has some cons for me. I have used a few primers in the past but this one I have to say I did not like. I do not know if it was the primer itself, my skin type, or both but this is the first primer that has caked on my eyelid. That is the only way to explain it. It did not blend into my skin it bunched up on it. You could see it around the edges and made the shadows look a little clumped. I washed it off and started over. Same result. It looked like I piled to much on my eyelid is the best way I can explain it. In the picture of myself wearing the eye shadows, I am not using the primer at all. I just applied a very small amount of lotion to my eye lids instead. It was not fair of me to use a different brand of primer for this brand of eye shadow’s review.
The NYC eye shadow compact that I received is a limited edition, but they have many more in many colors that are just as pretty. If you go to their website www.newyorkcolor.com , under any of their products you will find a button that says “Where to buy”, click on that and a new little window pops up asking for your address or zip code to find local business near you, that carry their products. My over all thoughts on this NYC eye shadow compact are that for the money and even though the primer was not pleasing to me, the vibrant shadows do make it a good value.
